Wolf Range Repair

Dual-fuel and all-gas Wolf ranges in Brookline apartments, rowhouses and single-family kitchens, most of them tight on clearance to cabinetry. Spark modules and igniters, burner heads and caps, gas valves, oven relays and door springs.

Flat $95 service call — the trip and the full diagnosis — credited against the repair if you approve one.

A stainless gas range seen at an angle in warm wood cabinets, one cooktop burner cap lifted off its base and the oven door standing open

The call

How it gets described

  • Red knob glow with no flame on one burner
  • Charbroiler or griddle heating unevenly front to back
  • Ignition clicking that will not stop once the burner is lit
  • Grates and burner caps blackening on one side of the range only

The visit

What gets measured

  • Manifold pressure at the regulator, hot and cold
  • Spark module output and flame-sense return, burner by burner
  • Oven igniter draw in amps — the number that decides whether it still opens the valve
  • Low-flame screw on each burner, and the cap seating that goes with it

Cost

Quoted in full before anything comes apart

Flat $95 service call covering the visit and full diagnosis, credited against the repair once you approve it. These are the bands most repairs land in once the fault is known.

  • $270$690 Igniter or spark module replacement
  • $260$1,090 Burner valve or orifice service
  • $140$720 Oven thermostat or sensor calibration
  • $320$870 Convection fan or motor
  • $540$1,550 Control board or touch panel
  • $200$970 Door hinge, glass or seal
Repair or replace? A comparable new unit is $6,900 to $19,530

A comparable pro range, appliance only — before delivery, installation, gas or electrical work and any cabinetry. A rangetop plus separate wall ovens lands differently again.

What moves a job inside its band

  • Which part failed

An igniter and a control board are the two ends of the same appliance. Ignition, sensors and hardware sit at one end of the range; boards, gas valves and blower assemblies sit at the other.

  • Whether it is a current part

A part for a platform still in production arrives quickly. A superseded board or a discontinued blower means a supersession lookup and a wait, and the quote says so.

  • What it takes to get at it

A range that pulls forward on a tile floor is a different job from a slide-in trapped by a stone counter, or a hood liner four metres up a shared riser.

  • One visit or two

If the part is on the van it finishes that day. If it has to be ordered, the return visit is inside the quoted figure rather than added to it.

Questions

Range Repair: two questions before you call

One burner glows red at the knob but never lights.

The knob light only says the switch is closed. What matters is whether the electrode is sparking and whether gas is reaching the port. If the other burners light normally, the fault is local: cap seating, a blocked port ring, a wet or cracked electrode, or the valve behind that one burner.

The griddle heats unevenly front to back.

Almost always the burner underneath rather than the plate. A partially blocked port ring, a burner sitting slightly out of level after a clean, or a gas pressure problem that shows up first on the largest burner. The plate itself is a suspect only once the flame pattern has been ruled out.

The sparker would not stop once a burner was lit, which drove us mad through every dinner. Grease had worked into the switch behind one knob. He stripped it back, cleaned the contacts and refitted the caps square.

Split level in south Brookline and the range had been limping along for months. One valve would not hold a low setting and the relay chattered behind the panel. Both parts arrived together and he did the lot.

Rowhouse kitchen two floors up a narrow service stair, and the range has almost no clearance to the cabinets. A red knob glow with no flame turned out to be the spark module, not the gas valve I dreaded.
